OMT During and After Pregnancy
Osteopathic Manipulation (OMT) has been shown to be beneficial for women during and after pregnancy. Studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing pain and, in one study, reduced the time that women spent in labor. These osteopathic manipulation techniques are gentle and studies demonstrated the safety of OMT during pregnancy with no increase in early labor or adverse birth outcomes.
Osteopathic Manipulation during pregnancy is focused on relaxation, pain relief, proper alignment and preparing the body for labor and can be started during any trimester. OMT in the post-partum period is more focused on helping the body return to proper alignment and recovering from the natural stresses of pregnancy and labor. Some asymmetries after pregnancy can persist indefinitely and there is a benefit to seeking osteopathic manipulation even years after giving birth.
Weekly sessions are recommended during the third trimester; post-partum sessions can be weekly, monthly or as needed.
Most major insurances accepted.
